The inaugural British Small Business Summit, organised by SmallBusiness.co.uk and GrowthBusiness.co.uk, and held at London’s Royal Lancaster Hotel, is the pre-eminent day event for small company owners to convene over the business matters that concern them the most.
At the start of 2017, there were an estimated 5.7 million small businesses (defined as those with 0-49 employees) in the UK, accounting for 99.3 per cent of all private sector businesses.
While small companies may be numerous, the process of starting and growing a business can feel isolating, especially if you’re going it alone. From raising money, to maintaining margins, to managing your back office, authoritative advice and support is essential for small business owners to fulfil their company’s potential.
Through inspirational speeches, educational breakout rooms and panels, the British Small Business Summit will bring together the innovative small businesses underpinning the economy, and the vendors, advisers and industry figureheads that help them start, run, grow and succeed.

Our speakers for the event will be offering a wealth of procedural guidance and input on the economic outlook for small businesses. On the day, our speakers will include:
Martin McTague, policy and advocacy chairman, Federation of Small Businesses (FSB)
Martin works closely with government and opposition leaders, attending ministerial meetings and representing FSB and its members at the most senior levels.
Martin started his own business 28 years ago and now currently owns and manage three businesses – offering public policy, engineering and IT consultancy services – bringing three decades worth of experience to the Small Business Summit discussion.
Lai Wah Co, deputy agent for Greater London, Bank of England
Lai joined the Bank of England’s Greater London Agency in May 2016. She previously worked in the Bank’s Conjunctural Assessment and Projections Division as a Senior Economist, where she closely monitored survey and official data, and forecast near-term GDP growth.
Prior to joining the Bank in 2011, she worked at the CBI, where she headed up a team of economists covering the UK and international macro-economy, and offers critical insights into the economic conditions for small businesses today.
Liz Wilson, founder, Ma Baker
Fulham-based Ma Baker, established by Liz Wilson in 2014, is a leading micro bakery and winner of Best Sole Trader at last year’s British Small Business Awards.
The success of Liz’s business has been down to staying true to her values, offering a quality product, being sustainable, as well as the combination of excellent customer service, a creative marketing strategy, and a very good accountant.
“We look forward to welcoming small business owners, aspiring entrepreneurs, and sector leaders to the event”
In just four years, Liz has nurtured Ma Baker to become a thriving young business. She absolutely loves what she does, as her business makes people happy, herself as well as others, and is perfectly placed to communicate the wisdom she has acquired to our Small Business Summit delegates.
